The City of Burlington is taking another step toward making our streets safer for everyone—especially children walking to and from school. “Municipal Speed Camera Coming Soon” signs are now being installed across the city to give drivers at least 90 days’ notice before Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) cameras are activated. Once the cameras are live, the signs will be updated to read “Municipal Speed Camera In Use.”
Where the Cameras Will Be Located
Six mobile ASE cameras will be installed near schools, in designated Community Safety Zones where reduced speeds and safe driving are most critical. To ensure broad coverage and ongoing driver awareness, the cameras will be rotated to new school zones every six months.
Here are the first locations where cameras will be set up:
Ward 1: Aldershot Secondary School – Fairwood Place West
Ward 2: St. John’s (Burlington) Catholic Elementary School & Central Public School – Brant Street
Ward 3: Kilbride Public School – Kilbride Street
Ward 4: Sir Ernest Macmillan Public School – Headon Road
Ward 5: St. Christopher Catholic Elementary School – Sutton Drive
Ward 6: Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School – Headon Forest Drive
What is ASE
Automated Speed Enforcement has been proven to reduce speeding and encourage safer driving habits. By placing these cameras in school zones, the City is attempting to prioritize the safety of its youngest and most vulnerable pedestrians.
From Burlington Mayor Marianne Meed Ward:
“The safety of our community, especially children walking to and from school, is our top priority. Automated Speed Enforcement is a proven tool that will help reduce speeding, change driver behaviour, and make our streets safer for everyone. This program is about prevention and protection. Every dollar collected through ASE will be reinvested directly into road safety initiatives to further enhance the wellbeing of our residents.”
What Drivers Need to Know
Notice Period: You’ll see “Coming Soon” signs at least 90 days before cameras are active.
Activation: Once cameras are operational, signs will switch to “In Use.”
Rotation: Every six months, cameras will be moved to new school zones across Burlington.
Funds Reinvested: All ASE revenue will go directly back into road safety programs.
