Before you pack your beach bag, here’s the latest water quality report you need to know. As of July 13 at 5 p.m., Prospect Park Old Beach has been flagged as unsafe for swimming by Halton Region Public Health due to elevated E. coli levels.
Beaches Currently Safe for Swimming
According to the most recent testing, the following beaches have been deemed safe for swimming:
Beachway Beach – 1094 Lakeshore Road, Burlington
Brant Street Beach – Lakeshore Road & Brant Street, Burlington
Bronte Beach Park Beach – Lakeshore Road & Bronte Road, Oakville
South Shell Park Beach – 3376 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville
Coronation Park East Beach – 1426 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville
Coronation Park West Beach – 1426 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville
Lakeside Park Beach – 144 Front Street, Oakville
Please note that water testing takes time—so results may not always reflect the most current conditions.
Why Prospect Park Old Beach Is Unsafe
According to Ontario public health standards, beach water is considered unsafe when:
One sample contains 400+ E. coli bacteria per 100 mL
The geometric mean of five samples is 200+ E. coli per 100 mL
E. coli exposure can cause diarrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and increases the risk of other waterborne infections including skin rashes and eye, ear, nose, and throat irritation.
Swimming is also not recommended when:
It’s raining or has just rained heavily
The water appears cloudy, wavy, or full of birds
There are visible signs of pollution, debris, or dead fish
Blue-green algae blooms—also monitored across the region—can pose additional health risks for both humans and pets.

If you're unsure about the safety of a local beach, err on the side of caution. Avoid entering the water during or after heavy storms, and keep an eye out for posted warnings.
