Prime Minister Mark Carney holds a news conference in Hamilton, Ont., where he announces a series of measures aimed at protecting the domestic steel industry as it grapples with the impacts of U.S. tariffs. He is joined by Walt Koppelaar from Walters Group Canada, and Lisa Hepfner, MP for Hamilton Mountain. The announcement comes more than a month after U.S. President Donald Trump doubled tariffs on Canadian steel and aluminum from 25 to 50 per cent.
Responding to questions from reporters, the prime minister comments on ongoing trade negotiations with the U.S. and the possibility that tariffs on some Canadian goods may remain even if a trade agreement is reached.
