Toronto rapper Top5 filmed a music video inside a Canadian prison by bribing guards and flushing smuggled phones—now under full investigation.
Toronto rapper Top5, whose real name is Hassan Ali, allegedly pulled off a bold behind-bars stunt—filming a music video inside his prison cell at Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton. According to newly surfaced reports, Ali smuggled in cellphones, outwitted guards, and even flushed one device down the toilet to avoid getting caught.
The reports reveal he bribed a correctional officer, allegedly offering $10,000, and used phones that were smuggled in—one reportedly hidden in a visitor’s bra. During a cell search, he reportedly told guards they were "too late" after already recording the footage and disposing of the evidence.
A video of Top5 rapping in his cell, wearing prison clothes, surfaced in June 2023. The track, titled “21 Questions,” quickly caught attention and sparked outrage.
The Ontario government has since launched a full investigation into the incident, but it remains unclear whether any guards have faced consequences.
Top5, once charged with murder, had those charges dropped in September 2024. However, he was re-arrested in January 2025 on firearm-related offenses.
The case also sheds light on a broader issue: the rise of contraband phones in Canadian correctional facilities. In 2023–24, over 2,700 phones were seized in the federal system—a 25% spike from previous years—with nearly 2,000 seizures reported in Quebec alone.
This latest twist in Top5’s controversial story highlights just how creative—and risky—some inmates are willing to get to keep their voice in the spotlight.
