5 Escarpment Fall Hikes Near Burlington, and Which One Fits Your Weekend

Budget and timing up front: October is your window. Conservation Halton adult admission is $10.50 + HST when booked online and $12 + HST at the gate, with lower senior and child rates and free entry for under-5s. That's roughly $12–$14 per adult after tax. Bronte Creek needs an Ontario Parks day-use vehicle permit. Colour timing shifts year to year, so check conditions before you go.

1. Mount Nemo (5317 Guelph Line, Burlington)

This 169-hectare Escarpment park has crevice caves, cliffs and talus slopes. The Brock Harris Lookout looks out over the escarpment, and on a clear day you can see the CN Tower.

Expect dirt paths, exposed roots and rocky limestone, with sections of the Bruce Trail. Book online: gate attendants work Monday to Friday at every Conservation Halton park except Mount Nemo.

Skip this if you want smooth footing or you're pushing a stroller.

2. Bronte Creek Provincial Park (day-use entrance, 1219 Burloak Dr.)

The Ravine Trail (2.7 km) and Half Moon Valley Trail (2 km) run through forest to the creek, and Spruce Lane Farm is nearby. Walkers and cyclists don't pay admission. In October you may see salmon making their way up the creek.

Skip this if you're after big lookouts. It's a forest-and-creek day.

3. Hilton Falls (4985 Campbellville Road)

A 10-metre waterfall on a 3 km loop, part of 33.5 km of trails. The other trails are less crowded.

Skip this if you want the falls to yourself. That loop is the popular one.

4. Crawford Lake (3115 Conservation Road)

It sits atop the escarpment with a quieter, history-rich feel. It has a rare meromictic lake, a reconstructed 15th-century village and over 19 km of trails.

Skip this if you want a sweeping vista rather than woods and history.

5. Rattlesnake Point

Tree canopy, cliffs, hidden caves and 264 hectares of protected land.

Skip this if you're short on time. It's a half-day, not a quick stop.
