Picture a cold hand around a warm coffee, leaves underfoot, and a line of people who all had the same idea. That's October here.
Here's the month, in order.
1. Walk the first-ever Burlington Fertility Matters 6K
Sunday, Oct. 4, 9:30–11:30 a.m. at LaSalle Park.
It's a community walk in support of Fertility Matters Canada, and you can walk, run or go at your own pace. Everyone's welcome, dogs included.
Details and registration: fertilityblooms.com/burlington6kwalk
2. Grab lunch at the Fall Harvest Market
Street Eats Market's free outdoor Fall Harvest Market is at 1016 Waterdown Road in Aldershot, with its final weekend on Oct. 3–4.
Food vendors, seasonal treats, no big commitment.
3. Follow the glow at RBG's Great Pumpkin Trail
It runs Oct. 15–18 and Oct. 23–25 at Hendrie Park, with hundreds of jack-o'-lanterns and thousands of real pumpkins.
Tickets: pre-purchased, with 15-minute entry slots from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. No date or time changes after you register.
Strollers: not recommended on the 1 km trail. A ¼ km loop is stroller- and wheelchair-friendly.
Weather: it's outdoors, rain or shine.
Adults only: RBG After Dark: Pumpkin Trail is a separate 19+ night on Oct. 22.
4. Pick up pumpkins and apples close to home
Hutchinson Farm (6202 Walkers Line) is known for its pumpkin selection. Applevale Orchards (5144 Derry Rd.) offers U-pick apples during harvest season.
Call ahead for hours and what's ripe.
5. Take a fall-colour walk
Mount Nemo, Bronte Creek Provincial Park, Royal Botanical Gardens and Kerncliff Park are local picks. Priya has the full hiking breakdown.
6. Vote
It's not pumpkin-flavoured, but it's the biggest date on the calendar. Voting runs Oct. 14–26. Doug's guide has the details.
Bonus, November
The Art Gallery of Burlington's REVEL26 is on Nov. 6, with full details still being revealed.
