What Is the HandMade Market?

The HandMade Market started in 2009 in the living room of a 162-year-old Niagara farmhouse and has grown into one of Canada's best-known boutique handmade shopping events. It is produced by life-long Niagara residents Jennifer and Mark Elliotson, and its mantra is "Shop. Sip. Savour."

The market takes place three times a year at different locations in Niagara. The Holiday Market is the flagship event, held indoors in November, while the Spring Market takes place outdoors at 13th Street Winery in June. The 2027 Spring Market is scheduled for June 4 and 5 and again on June 11 and 12.

What to Expect at the Holiday Market

More than 200 Canadian makers, artisans, and fine artists from Ontario and Québec will gather for the weekend, offering thousands of one-of-a-kind items. You can expect to find:

  • Handcrafted jewellery, glass, and pottery

  • Leather goods, bags, and fashion accessories

  • Home décor, candles, and woodwork

  • Fine art, handbound books, and paper goods

  • Designer and kids' clothing, knits, and luxury fibres

  • Preserves, gourmet foods, and bath and body products

The idea is to shop for gifts that feel as good to give as they do to receive while supporting Canadian makers and small businesses. If you want to preview who will be there, the market publishes a Meet the Makers page ahead of each event.

Tickets and Entry: What You Need to Know

  • Advance tickets only: all tickets must be pre-purchased online before you arrive. You will receive a digital ticket, and you can show the barcode on your phone at the entrance or print it out.

  • Timed entry: the market uses staggered entry times to spread out attendance, which means shorter lineups, more parking, and a more relaxed shopping experience. Plan to arrive within a 30-minute window of your selected entry time.

  • Stay as long as you like: once you have checked in, you can shop for as long as you want, but your ticket is valid for one-time entry with no re-entry.

  • Refunds: tickets are non-refundable, but they can be transferred to a friend or family member.

  • Weather: the market runs rain, snow, or shine.

Parking and Accessibility

The City of Niagara Falls owns and operates the closest parking lot, located behind the convention centre. Your market ticket does not include or guarantee parking in this paid lot. The next closest public lot is operated by Canada Wide Parking at 5609 Dunn Street, about 300 metres from the convention centre, and there is other public parking within a few blocks at nearby private lots, hotels, and restaurants. The market encourages carpooling to ease traffic and parking.

The Niagara Falls Convention Centre is a fully accessible building owned and operated by the City of Niagara Falls. It has about 20 reserved accessible parking spots nearest the west main entrance, and you can also be dropped off outside the entrance to Hall C.

Tips for Making the Most of the Market

  • Buy tickets early, since the market recommends purchasing early.

  • Carpool if you can, to make parking easier for everyone.

  • Pick your entry time to match your plans, and arrive on time.

  • Bring a sturdy bag for your finds.

  • Plan a break at the café and wine bar to listen to live music.

  • Leave pets at home, as only registered service animals are allowed.

  • Think about the crowd: children of all ages are welcome, but the market describes itself as an adult-oriented event featuring artisans, food, wine, art, and live music.
