Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland and Housing Minister Sean Fraser announced their plans to step away from Justin Trudeau‘s cabinet on Monday, in what appeared to be a blow to the Liberal government in an unstable minority Parliament.

Freeland said in a statement Trudeau told her Friday he no longer wants her to serve as Finance Minister and offered her another position in cabinet, signaling she no longer had his confidence and leading to her resignation.

“For the past number of weeks, you and I have found ourselves at odds about the best path forward for Canada,” she said.
