Best Hikes in Burlington, Ontario

Explore Burlington’s most beautiful trails and scenic lookouts. Whether you’re chasing waterfalls or forest escapes, there’s a hike here for everyone.

Burlington is more than a charming waterfront city — it’s a nature-lover’s playground. Nestled between Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment, we’ve got access to some of the most stunning trails in Southern Ontario. Whether you're out for a weekend hike or a weekday recharge, here are the best hikes in Burlington to lace up your boots for.

1. Mount Nemo Conservation Area

If you're looking for the ultimate Burlington hike with a view, Mount Nemo is the one. Just a short drive from downtown, this looped trail offers dramatic cliffside views of the escarpment and even the CN Tower on a clear day. The rugged limestone paths wind through forests and exposed rock, making it a favourite for both hikers and rock climbers.

Trail Length: ~3.5 km loop
Difficulty: Moderate
Best For: Sunset views, birdwatching, and photography

2. Bruce Trail – Kerncliff Park to City View Park

A local gem, this section of the Bruce Trail runs through Kerncliff Park, weaving past limestone cliffs, boardwalks, and forested escarpment terrain. Continue north and you’ll hit City View Park, home to some of the best panoramic views of Burlington and the lake.

Trail Length: ~5 km one way
Difficulty: Easy to moderate
Best For: Weekend warriors and dog walkers

3. Hidden Valley Park

This lesser-known hike flies under the radar, but Hidden Valley Park packs a punch with winding forest paths, creekside views, and a tranquil escape from the city bustle. It’s also a great starting point to connect to the Grindstone Creek Trail.

Trail Length: Varies
Difficulty: Easy
Best For: Families, casual hikers, and nature strolls

4. LaSalle Park & Waterfront Trail

Craving something lakeside? Head to LaSalle Park for a beautiful stroll along Burlington’s waterfront. The Waterfront Trail extends east and west, but LaSalle’s stretch is particularly scenic with marina views, birdwatching spots, and access to the waterfront boardwalk.

Trail Length: ~3 km (extendable)
Difficulty: Easy
Best For: Lake views, photography, and casual walks

5. Crawford Lake to Rattlesnake Point Hike

Technically starting in Milton, this hike is too good not to mention. The Crawford Lake to Rattlesnake Point section of the Bruce Trail offers a bit of everything: cedar boardwalks, deep woods, lookout points, and cliffside paths. It’s about a 4.5-hour trek one way — so bring water and plan a shuttle or loop back.

Trail Length: ~8.2 km one way
Difficulty: Moderate to challenging
Best For: Day hikers and escarpment explorers

6. Lowville Park and Bronte Creek

Lowville Park, tucked in Burlington’s north end, connects to the Bronte Creek Trail and offers peaceful riverside walking with plenty of picnic space. It's a great spot for a slower pace and family-friendly nature outings.

Trail Length: ~3 km loop
Difficulty: Easy
Best For: Nature picnics, casual strolls, and creekside vibes
